“Out of the frying pan, into the fire.”

Chris Seitz just can’t catch a break. Driving west to escape the flooding that rocked his Georgia hometown, he finds himself stranded during a record monsoon in a rural Arizona town. With just a bag of clothes and the kitten he rescued from the flood, Chris has never felt more alone. Now the kitten has gotten lost, and Chris is nearing the end of his rope.

“What good was an artist if he couldn’t make his art?”

Wandering around during a thunderstorm in the hopes of curing his crippling creative block, master potter Lucas Duncan is surprised to find something else—a terrified and lost cat. He’s even more surprised to discover who the owner is the handsome newcomer to town.

“I didn’t want to believe that I could feel that way about another man…”

Deep in the closet and ten years Chris’s senior, Lucas wouldn’t normally have a reason to associate with the young wanderer… if not for Henry the cat, and the unyielding magnetism of fate. Can the undeniable connection between the two lost souls bring their stray hearts home?

Stray Hearts Harper Logan Books Reviews

This is such a sweet story of two people rediscovering themselves and finding love when they least expect it, it was easy for me to be swept away by the romance of Chris and Lucas’ blossoming relationship. With no plan other than to pack up his car and leave, Chris’ journey is delayed when the kitten he rescued wanders off, spooked by a storm. Encountering blocked artist Lucas, who sheltered the kitten, Chris’ entire world changes in the blink of an eye and I found myself cheering him on, urging him to settle right where he was instead of continuing on to some arbitrarily chosen destination. Despite the intensity of their attraction to each other, Lucas struggles with his growing feelings for Chris, and I may have been a little frustrated with his reticence, not quite sure what or who he was so afraid of. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Henry, the stray kitten who has a knack for providing help at the same time he appears to need it and who managed to infuse almost every scene he was in with an extra dose of cute. This book kept me entertained throughout, and is a good choice if you’re looking for something that just feels good to read.
Please note that I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
Very cute and so sweet. However, the timelines just didn't work for me. What had happened the day before was made to seem like it had been weeks which made things awkward and made Chris seem really pathetic. For example, the day before the cookout into the day of. I had to go back and make sure I had that right. I would also have liked to have known more of their background stories, I think that would have really made a difference. Without knowing more about Lucas it felt he was half a story.

What I loved was Reynold and Lee! At first I thought their kindness was going to be annoying but for me it was absolutely perfect. I think the world we live in today needs more of that and the way they were written made my heart happy. And Henry, how I loved Henry. I love black cats and the few I've had were exactly like him so I had a nice picture already in my head.

And I then we have the sexy times....boy were they hot! Especially the window peeping! Overall it was cute and sweet and fun and sexy. A perfect come down after a really intense book and I need that sometimes. A few little typos but nothing that annoyed me. I would still read more of the author's work.

*I received a voluntary ARC for an honest review*
In his twenties and out of college, Chris' life is not exactly going well. He had a soulless, dead end job, his parents rejected him when he told them he was gay and his apartment building flooded out in a hurricane. Leaving everything behind, Chris heads out in a road trip across America, in a bid to get as far away from home as possible. Along the way he rescues Henry, a young, black stray cat. Arriving in the small town of Armstrong, Arizona the two spend the night in a gas station. But in the morning Henry disappears. Chris is heartbroken. Meanwhile Henry has been found by Lucas, an artist (potter) in his thirties with his own problems. Lucas has returned to Armstrong, where he grew up, in order to find his feet again so he can get on with life. Chris meets Lucas and there seems to be an attraction, but can anything really develop in a backwater like Armstrong?

Coming-of-age novels are usually about the senior year of high school, but this novel has much of the 'finding yourself' feel of that genre. Harper Logan has written a very amiable novel, with an old-fashion, home-town, family feel. In our fast-passed, city life many of us lack a sense of home, of family, of a space in which we belong. If we search, though, we can find a surrogate family, be it a circle of friends or a particular place in which we 'fit'. Of course this novel is also about romance, at that too is a part of 'finding yourself'. But sometimes we must accept ourselves before we can accept another. This includes being willing to risk secrets that others may not like.

As with most of Logan's novels, some chapters are written from Chris' perspective and others are from Lucas'. This allows for interesting comparisons and contrasts. The novel moves along very nicely and is over far too soon. Logan is an excellent writer. Her prose is crisp and light nothing overly heavy to wade through, which is not to say that she does not offer her readers something to think about. The tone is very agreeable and I am sure that readers will like both Chris and Logan, and indeed Armstrong.

Chris is a young man searching, and indeed many of us are searching no matter what our age. When life lets you down, the only thing to do is go looking elsewhere. It is indeed this positive hope that attracts us most to Chris. It is possible to be hopeful even when things go wrong, and it is people like this who survive. Lucas, too, struggles for answers. He is older, and perhaps more set in his ways, but we like him because he demonstrates a capability to succeed. It is this driving force that we admire. We want him to overcome difficulty.

I must say that this is the second book by Logan that I have read and that I am now a fan. Of course I like gay romance, but Logan's books have a certain charm that leaves you with a good feeling. This novel gets five stars from me.
A wonderful book.it has a lot of emotions and deep filling.
This one was a really sweet story! I loved this one, loved the characters, very relaxed vibe about the location. Sort of town I grew up in. Perfect story !!! A+++ Author!
A bit silly, and the voices of the characters were hard to distinguish at times, but it was still kind of fun.
